HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION EVENT

Henry County Recycling announces annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event has been scheduled for Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 8AM - 1PM. Dont throw those chemicals in the trash, recycle them properly by bringing to this event!

What is Household Hazardous Waste?
“Household Hazardous Waste” is defined as corrosive, flammable, toxic, or reactive materials used in your home, vehicle, garden, or on your lawn.

Why should I properly dispose of hazardous waste?
There are many reasons to properly dispose of household hazardous waste. One reason is that improperly stored hazardous products in the home may increase the risk of poisoning or injury. Also, disposing of hazardous waste in ordinary trash may injure sanitation workers because some products are chemically incompatible and may cause fires in dumpsters or garbage trucks.

How can I dispose of my household hazardous waste?
Henry County Recycle Center along with the Tennessee Dept. of Environment and Conservation hosts an annul collection event usually on a Saturday, 8AM-1PM in the month of May.  This day is earmarked for collection of left over hazardous waste.   Save your material safely using proper containers and proper labeling for the event in May and bring it on the day specified for free disposal.

How can I find out when a event has been scheduled?
The event is scheduled by TDEC usually in the spring.  Watch for articles in the local newspaper and listen for information on the radio.  Some internet based news sites will also provide scheduled times and dates.  You can always visit the Henry County Solid Waste  web page for event information.
