August
2010
The
Henry County Budget Committee completed work
on the 2010-2011 budget. This budget was
passed by the Henry County Commission in its
regular session, August 16, 2010. The
approved budget requires a property tax rate
of $2.047, which complies with the
reappraisal rate set by the State of
Tennessee. The property tax rate in FY
2009-2010 was $2.35.
Work
continues on the Paris Landing Emergency
Services Complex. Completion of the project
is still set for late fall. The building
will house the Paris Landing Volunteer Fire
Department,
Henry County Medical Center Ambulance
Service, Henry County Rescue Squad,
Tennessee Wildlife Resources, Henry
County Sheriff’s Department, a community
room and senior citizens office.
Three
new constitutional officers will be sworn in
on September 1, 2010. Donna Craig will serve
as our County Clerk, Pam Martin will serve
as our Register of Deeds and Mike Wilson is
our new Circuit Court Clerk. Jerry Bomar,
Ron Myers and Alice Webb, all of whom have
served our county well for many years will
be leaving office. We wish the best for each
one in their new endeavors. In addition,
three new county commissioners were selected
to join the twelve returning commissioners.
Jeff Hamlin, Mitchell Evans and Tim Wirgau
did not seek reelection.
Henry
County received notification that its Energy
Efficiency Grant in the amount of $100,000
had been awarded by the State of Tennessee.
These monies will be used in the $750,000
energy efficiency renovation on eight county
owned buildings. The project will be
overseen by Ameresco and should begin in
October or November.
Henry
County will begin its football season in
late August. We encourage everyone to come
out to Patriot Stadium and support the
"Big Red."
